CRITERIA FOR SUBMISSION OF CANDIDATES FOR THE ROLL OF DISTINGUISHED YORKSHIRE PHILATELISTS
1. The Association maintains a permanent record of eminent philatelists who are members of the Association by virtue of their affiliation through a society. This record takes the form of an album, which is known as The Roll of Distinguished Yorkshire Philatelists. The Roll is kept by an appointed member who is responsible for maintaining the Roll by mounting photographs and writing-up as required. S/He is also responsible for producing the Roll at the Annual Convention of the Association, and at any other time as required by the Management Committee.
2. Each year a sub-committee of the Association, consisting of the President, the Vice President and the Secretary, meets to select from the names submitted to it by the societies, one or more candidates who will be invited to sign the Roll at the Annual General Meeting of the Association. Each signatory will be represented by an album page on which will be mounted a photograph of the signatory, with a summary of his/her philatelic achievements mounted in a companion volume.
3. Each year any Society belonging to the Association may nominate one or more of its members for consideration, and should state the reasons for the nomination (see paragraph 5 below). A member of another society may be nominated, provided that he/she is well known to the nominating society and only with the permission of the society of which the nominee is a member. Nominations should be made to the YPA Secretary by 31 December of the year preceding the year in which the signing is to take place. Nominations will not be carried over from year to year, but unsuccessful nominations may be repeated in subsequent years. No member of the Association may be selected to sign the Roll on more than one occasion. The sub-committee will inform the society of the selected member(s) who will arrange for the supply to the YPA Secretary of a photograph of approximately 3 inches wide by 4 inches high for inclusion in the record.
4. It is considered essential that any nominee should possess one or more of the following qualifications:
4.1. To have formed and displayed a well-known collection or collections within the area covered by the Association;
4.2. To have carried out distinguished honorary work at society or Association level or as part of a national philatelic organisation.
4.3. To have been a frequent contributor to the philatelic press, or to have been generally recognised as an expert in his/her field.
5. To enable the YPA sub-committee to choose the signatory or signatories for the following year each nomination is expected to include a brief history of the nominee's philatelic achievements, e.g.:
(a) Membership of Societies - years
(b) Holding of Office of Societies - years
(c) Delegate to YPA, or other Societies - years
(d) Collections formed - elaborate
(e) Displays to other societies - names
(f) Competition entries - standards reached
(g) Articles published - names
(h) Other interests
